When I talk to other people about this yoga class, I emit excitement. The classes motivated me like yoga has never done in the past. The routine awakens every muscle, fiber, and cell in my body. I have never felt so alive and powerful. Everything about me is changing. I find myself practicing my breathing techniques continually. I feel myself standing taller, more calm, and centered. These classes do much more that just teach yoga. These classes encourage change. Changes that were meant to be, but just needed a helping hand. I didn't know what to expect when I walked into Athens Power Yoga for the first time. I just know it's one of the best things I ever did for myself. (Diane)

I look at my arms these days and I say: whose arms are these? Since starting to go to Athens Power Yoga almost one year ago, I have become so much stronger and more flexible than I ever thought possible. I had practiced many different forms of yoga over the previous 12 years but had yet to find a way to commit to a practice. I was always looking for ways to complement yoga to get a complete workout -- running, cycling, swimming. This took too much time and yoga was always the first cut. But when I started Power Yoga last year, I was floored at how challenged I was. The hour and a half workout embodied the kinds of things I had tried to do separately before -- there's a rigorous cardio workout combined with intense spiritual learning and flexibility. When I get on my bike or go for a run or swim, I feel my new muscles and my new sense of groundedness and commitment. I have also found a way into my own consistent yoga practice. I go to the studio to learn new poses, for the heat and for the instructor's guidance and push. But with consistent practice, I have also learned to unroll the mat more consistently at home, to practice with my husband and friends. Overall, I cannot say enough about how Power Yoga has improved my overall sense of well-being and fitness! Thank you, Athens Power Yoga, for coming to Athens!!!! (Melisa)

Yoga is the counterbalance to my enjoyable but demanding career. It has become a respite from objectives and boundaries. I've discovered a new appreciation for my body, as yoga has given me improved core strength and the flexibility to avoid injury. Perhaps most importantly, yoga practice has given me the ability to distinguish between the foods that fuel my body and those that hinder my performance. Instead of counting calories, I've learned to listen to my body. This knowledge is more powerful than any diet or exercise program I've ever tried. Kendall's nurturing instruction is integral to this newly discovered self-exploration. Her classes are intuitive, motivating, and challenging for all levels of mastery. In finding yoga, I've begun a journey that is quite possibly the most enlightening practice I've ever experienced. (Stephanie)

Attending class at Athens Power Yoga is arguably the best things that I do for my body. The structure of the classes is conducive to any level, from beginner to expert, and it pushes me physically and mentally each time I attend. Before yoga, I carried lots of stress in my shoulders and needed weekly massage treatments to un-knot my shoulder and help relieve my neck, shoulder and head pain. Also, I used to be a distance runner and was so inflexible I could barely touch my shins. Since starting yoga, I no longer need massage to relieve my neck and shoulder pain and I am much more flexible than I ever imagined. An added bonus is that my upper body and core strength has improved dramatically and my body feels SO MUCH better when I attend regularly. The first few classes are difficult but persistence pays off in so many ways both physically and mentally. (Stacie)

The beginner's series class at Athens Power Yoga was the first yoga class I had ever taken. I had tried several videos, but it was difficult to be certain that I was doing everything correctly, and many of the poses were too hard. The beginner's class was a great learning environment -- there wasn't any pressure to do poses I wasn't ready for and modifications were taught to the entire class. After the beginner's classes were over, I decided to continue practicing yoga because of the mental and physical benefits. Yoga practice has a focusing effect; it helps me to release all the mental and physical stress that comes with being a grad student and I find myself looking forward to my practice time every week. Having been involved with endurance athletics for close to the last 20 years, I have realized one thing: flexibility, core strength, and recovery are key ingredients to any training program. This past winter, I decided to up my current "DVD Yoga" program and get back into a studio. At about that time, I noticed an ad for "Hot Yoga" in Alps shopping center. That was all it took! Since my first yoga session, I have noticed an increase in flexibility and strength in my overall conditioning. I consider it a key part to my training and competing in triathlons and various other competitions. Yes, at first I was intimidated, yet Kendall was very helpful in erasing a lot of those fears. She is very knowledgable and friendly. One thing I has discovered during my classes, even though I initially signed up to get better physically, is that I have grown in a spiritual way through Kendall's approach. When I leave, I am mentally refreshed and destressed. I highly recommend this class to anybody wishing to enhance their lives mentally and physically. (Jake)

I relocated to Athens after Hurricane Katrina, and began attending classes at Athens Power Yoga. I chose this studio at first because the unlimited class card was such a great deal for anyone who wants to attend class regularly, and because there are so many classes at so many different times during the week. I am more used to hatha yoga and wasn't sure that Power Yoga was really my thing. The first few classes were very difficult for me, and I wasn't sure that I was ready for such a challenging practice. But it was amazing how quickly I became stronger, more balanced, and more flexible. And once you get used to the heat, you won't want to do yoga without it! I continued to go to class 4 or 5 times a week in between many trips to New Orleans to repair my home there, and after every class (even the times I didn't feel like going) the tension would be gone from my hips, the knots in my shoulders would melt away, and I would leave class feeling calm and grounded. Kendall is a wonderful teacher, and she teaches her classes with modifications truly geared for anyone - from an experienced yogi to a new beginner. It's been about 3 months since I started attending classes there, and I am in MUCH better shape, both in body and in heart. (Jennifer)
